Dr. Monte H. Koppel

The Haitian Heritage Museum would like to announce the largest donation of artwork of two hundred pieces to the Museum. From the late Dr. Monte H. Koppel estate who was educated at Columbia, NYU, and the New School for Social Research.

His career included Professor of Philosophy at the University of Puerto Rico, United Nations UNESCO Ambassador to Colombia, and Professor of Social Policy at Florida International University.

His deep love and appreciation for the Haitian culture began in the 1960's with visits to the island. Later, he began collecting multiple genres from the island artists for his personal and professional collection. Dr. Koppel was also the owner of Gallerie sans Murs and exhibited Haitian art extensively in California, Florida, Germany, and Eastern Europe. We are thankful for this donation which will continue to assist the Haitian Heritage Museum in creating a legacy for the future generations.
